Each club has its own detailed safety policy. Please refer to your club’s policy for specific procedures, requirements, and event rules, as they often supersede ours.
In an emergency, dial 911.
On the Water
- Keep your PFD on and fastened whenever you’re on the water.
- Dress for the water temperature, not the air temperature. Lake Ontario stays cold well into early summer and again in the fall. See our cold water safety guidance.
- Check conditions before you launch on our weather page.
- Avoid sailing alone, and let someone ashore know when you’re heading out and when you expect to be back.
In an Emergency
Dial 911 and tell the dispatcher exactly where you are. Regatta Road has few landmarks and limited lighting, which can slow response, so if you can, have someone meet responders at the entrance.
Seasonal Operations & Winter Access
Programs, supervision, and on-site services are not provided during the winter season, and access to club property during that time is at your own risk. See Seasonal Operations & Winter Access for details.
Health
Look out for fellow sailors, and let others know what you need. If you’re feeling unwell, please rest and join us when you’re better.
Conduct & Reporting
For respectful community expectations, harassment, and how to raise a concern, see our Code of Conduct.
