Unwin Ave in spring with large water-filled potholes

Unwin Ave Pothole Updates

April 7 Update on pothole repairs on Unwin. A drainage dyke is being dug between the railway line and the road.

Paula Fletcher has confirmed that Toronto Transportation Services has developed a plan to address the situation.

Understanding the Challenges

Unwin Avenue presents a complex infrastructure issue. Much of the road sits at roughly the same level as Lake Ontario, resulting in a high water table and saturated ground. With no sewers in place and limited drainage, seasonal snowmelt and runoff have worsened conditions. Despite the addition of 510 tonnes of gravel in February, the road has seen little improvement.

Immediate Actions

City crews will undertake several short-term measures to improve safety and accessibility:

  • Removal of standing water
  • Drainage improvements
  • Regrading of the roadway
  • Temporary surface stabilization and patch repairs where conditions permit

Next Steps

Construction crews are expected to mobilize in May to resurface the road. While resurfacing will not resolve the underlying environmental and structural challenges, it should significantly improve drivability and make the roadway more passable in the near term.

The City will continue to monitor conditions and explore long-term solutions. Community members are encouraged to stay informed and share feedback as work progresses.

For further updates, please follow official communications from the City of Toronto and the local councillor’s office.

We don’t recommend driving in with a boat on a trailer as the road conditions are still rough.

🚫 No parking on Regatta Road by the clubs on March 26. A City of Toronto contractor will be straightening the parking lot curb stones. In a long two-way lot, angled parking is likely easier and faster to use, with better exit visibility and fewer tight manoeuvres.
