Saint James Town Sailing Club: Sailing, Community & Connection This June

Summer is in full swing in Toronto’s waterfront and the Outer Harbour. Saint James Town Sailing Club, with 200 members, is alive with activity, helping people learn to sail, get out on the water, and build a fun, healthy, and environmentally aware community. Here are some highlights from a recent email. June Highlights: Learn to Sail: Beginner clinics (CANSail 1–4), Laser, and Catamaran training are underway. “Old Salt Days” pair new sailors with experienced members for hands-on learning. On Saturday, May 31, the clubs in the Outer Harbour came alive with food, music, and swashbuckling fun! Dressed in pirate-tropical flair, members crawled from club to club, raising funds for the OHSF Jr Sailing Camp. The final tally is coming in, but the fundraising total is looking good. Club Profile: Water Rats Sailing Club

The Water Rat Sailing Club is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization providing accessible and inclusive on-water sports and recreation opportunities to Torontonians since its founding in 1969. Another “100-year storm” leads to E. coli Warnings

Tuesday's rain storm delivered a month's rain in 3 hours, capping off a wet 7 days. It may have been Toronto's third “100-year storm” since 2013. It caused flooding in the Don Valley, the Portlands, and many areas in Toronto. It's recommended to not swim for two days after a big storm due to E. coli levels. Cherry Beach, usually a Blue Flag beach, was unsafe to swim on Wednesday. Swimming during and after storms, floods, or heavy rainfall is discouraged due to potential bacteria risks indicated by cloudy water. E. coli counts from recent beach water samples determine
