Summer is in full swing in Toronto’s waterfront and the Outer Harbour.
Saint James Town Sailing Club, with 200 members, is alive with activity, helping people learn to sail, get out on the water, and build a fun, healthy, and environmentally aware community. Here are some highlights from a recent email.
June Highlights:
- Learn to Sail: Beginner clinics (CANSail 1–4), Laser, and Catamaran training are underway. “Old Salt Days” pair new sailors with experienced members for hands-on learning.
- Race & Train: Albacore Fun Races (June 7), the Harbour Master Series (June 8), Monday Night Race Training (resumes June 9), and advanced clinics with top sailors keep members sharp and engaged.
- Inclusive & Active: The club celebrates Pride Month and Indigenous History Month, while supporting adaptive sailing through Able Sail Toronto and offering First Aid and Coach Boat safety certifications.
- Social & Sustainable: Wednesday Night Dinners are back, with communal meals and social sails. Composting is an active process, with an emphasis on reducing waste and living sustainably.
- Giving Back: The recent club crawl raised $460 for junior sailing. Volunteers are vital—from house maintenance to mentoring on the water.
With its welcoming spirit, busy calendar, and love of wind and water, J-Town is more than a sailing club—it’s a vibrant, supportive community keeping Toronto connected to its lakefront and each other.
